Self catering holiday cottages with swimming pool near Gorron in the Mayenne
close to the borders of Normandy and Brittany

La Cretouffière is an exceptionally charming hamlet in a secluded self-contained setting 5 km from the market town of Gorron.
There are four cottages available for rent, three which are adjacent to each other and form part of a long barn and the fourth is detached.
There is a shared 6m x 4m swimming pool.

There is a third twin bedroom with en-suite shower room.

The bathroom has a corner bath, toilet and mosaic basin built into a tiled curved surface and stained glass panels.

Maison Clement

Large living room with dining area, exposed beams, comfortable seating, CD/cassette player, French TV with English video library and a wood-burning stove.

Modern kitchen has gas cooker, refrigerator, microwave, kettle, toaster and all basic amenities.

Ground floor shower room with toilet and basin.

From the kitchen the stairs lead up to a large attractive landing and three carpeted bedrooms; one full double bedroom, one small double bedroom, and a bedroom with bunk beds. Each bedroom has a Velux roof-light, oak beams, chest of drawers and electric bar heater.

Maison Leroi

Although attached to Maison Clement, this is much older being late 17th century. Maison Leroi is of open-plan design with exposed beams and stonework.

The kitchenette forms part of the dining / living room, with gas cooker, microwave oven, refrigerator, kettle, toaster and all basic amenities.

In the living area is a two-seater sofa.

The downstairs shower room has WC and wash basin.

A staircase leads directly up into the well-lit upper level with double bed built on a raised platform (access slightly restricted due to exposed beams).

Heating is provided by electricity.

Maison Lareine

Maison Lareine is adjacent to Maison Leroi and bears the date of 1680 on a stone lintel.
Of open-plan design, the kitchen is in the corner of the living / dining room next to the original stone fireplace now equipped with a wood-burner.
This cottage is full of character but with modern amenities; gas cooker, refrigerator, kettle, toaster, and electric convector heater.

The shower room with toilet and wash basin is also on the ground floor.

A staircase leads up to a dramatic gallery bedroom with a double bed, chest of drawers, huge exposed oak beams and Velux windows.
There is a small single bedroom curtained off from this area and partitioned by a built-in ‘hanging’ wardrobe.
(N.B. the gallery side of the mezzanine, open above adult chest level, could be considered hazardous for an active youngster).

Outside

The properties have pastoral views over fields to the rear beyond the pool and face onto the picturesque original bread oven that has been renovated to provide a BBQ and tree shaded area.

Activities

Swimming and Boating: There are good nearby indoor and outdoor pools and several large lakes with designated beaches and swimming and boating areas within a reasonable distance - Ambrieres les Vallees for example.

Beaches: The sandy beaches of Southern Normandy and Eastern Brittany are about an hour and a quarter away.

Cycling: the owners have several adult cycles available for hire. This area is excellent safe cycling country.

Walking: There are local waymarked routes. The nearby walks along the hills of Southern Brittany are particularly recommended.

Wine: The local vineyards of the Loire.

A boules set and badminton are on site.
A small exhibition room is to be added for the display of local artworks.
 

Local area

Colombiers du Plessis - 1 mile - is a quiet rural village with a bar/tabac where bread can be bought and fishing permits obtained.

Gorron - 3 miles - a small French town with all facilities.

Ernee - 7 miles south west - has the same facilities as Gorron but on a grander scale.

Mayenne - 12 mile east - an attractive riverside town.

Fontaine Daniel - with a lake set in the woods is particularly picturesque.

Chailland - is worth a visit.

Fougeres - 20 miles west - with its large intact medieval castle and half timbered houses.

Vitre - 24 miles south west - a fascinating maze of medieval streets leading to the castle.

The D-Day Landing Beaches.

St. Fraimbault - a flower village par excellence. Take a pedalo on the lake or lunch in one of the restaurants.

Bagnoles de L’Orne - 25 miles north east.

Domfront - 20 miles north - a medieval castle town.

Les Jardins des Renaudies Parc Floral - 10 minutes walk away - stunning flower gardens open April - September.

Coutances, Bayeux, Le Mans, Rennes and Mont St Michel are only one and a quarter hours away.

St. Malo and Dinan - one and three quarters hours.

Included in the prices is the provision of one initial set of bed linen per bed, bottled gas for cooking and sufficient electricity and hot water for normal domestic use.

If fresh linen is required during your visit, costs are 5 euros per person.
Towels and tea towels are not normally supplied.

In the cool season an allowance of 100 units of electricity per week is made in the two larger units, plus a barrow-load of wood.
Any additional requirements will be charged at cost.
 

Changeover Day: Normally Saturday except during Peak Season when we try to stagger intake according to early demand. Some flexibility is therefore often possible and we will do all they can to meet your requirements.
 

Peak season discounts: during the peak season the cost of second / subsequent weeks are reduced by £50 in Clement and Kayte.
 

Short or long breaks out of season: We are happy to quote for longer lets as well as short out-of-season breaks.
