La Bastide d’Engras is dominated by a medieval chateau.
St. Laurent La Vernede (2km) has an excellent bakery, a small general store and a tennis court (for which a key is kept at the house).
St. Quentin la Poterie, (7km) famous for its community of potters, also boasts a butcher, supermarket, pharmacy and a Friday market of fish and fresh local produce.
There are very many excellent restaurants in the area.
There is a 9 hole golf course in Uzes and a tennis court in St Laurent la Vernede. There are 4 racquets and tennis balls in the house and you can hire clubs at the golf club.
There are walks through pine forests, vineyards, sunflower, cherry and apricot fields, and a good walk to St Laurent la Vernede up over the hill opposite the house.
The house is 12km north east of Uzes, a charming medieval town with a Cathedral, a Lombardic tower and a Duchy open for visits. Its Saturday market is famous and is a must, and there are many restaurants nestling under
the arches.
During the summer Uzes has two music festivals comprising modern dance and ancient music.
The famous Pont du Gard is twenty minutes away and the historic towns of Avignon, Nimes, Montpellier and Arles are within an hour’s drive.
One of the most beautiful villages in France, La Roque-sur-Ceze, is very near and we suggest you take a picnic and swimming costume to swim in the River Ceze.
There are wonderful beaches in the Camargue National Park (90 minutes) and white water canoeing in the Gorge D’Ardeche for the more adventurous.
