The house stands in the shade of the castle wall. There is no garden but as there is so little traffic the locals sit outside in the cool of the evening. Opposite there is parking space or you may prefer to park in the square up
the road.
Local area
Capestang is a delightful village on the famous Canal du Midi, which joins the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea. It is 13km west of Beziers and 18km north of Narbonne.
The main centres of Capestang are the recently renovated square alongside the massive cathedral of St. Etienne and the canal port which is about 500m behind the house.
A market is held in the square on Wednesday and Sunday mornings.
The port is very busy in summer when the canal is active with both hired and touring craft.
You can even play “boules” up on the canal path in Capestang or just watch the boats go by.
In the Languedoc Regional Park, 30km north, are spectacular mountain walks.
The Mediterranean beaches are about 25 minutes away by car.
The famous walled citadel of Carcassonne is about 50km away. It is touristic but well worth a visit and is a great day out.
Further afield are Minerve, Lagrasse and Perpignan.
Also you are not far from the Corbieres, Cathar castles and the spectacular open-carriaged “Little Yellow Train” ride up the valley from Villefranche towards Andorra and Bourg Madame.
