Uzes, known as the first duchy in France, is a charming medieval town set in the Languedoc Roussillon region in the South of France, surrounded by vineyards, sunflower fields and lavender
fields. It is a bustling market town with two main markets held each week on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
There are two large supermarkets on the outskirts of Uzes that can be accessed via car. However, the bakeries, butchers, markets and all the other shops of Uzes can easily be accessed on
foot within a few minutes walk of the house.
There are many wonderful restaurants in Uzes and the surrounding villages where you can sample the best of French and Provençal cuisine.
Uzes is also a perfect base from which to explore the surrounding countryside - visitors can hire bicycles, go horse riding, canoe down the Rive Gardon and under the Pont du Gard or go wild
swimming in the river at the nearby village of Collias, about 5km from Uzes.
As Uzes is in the centre of the Languedoc wine region, there are numerous vineyards in the surrounding areas where tours can be arranged to sample some of the best rose wine in France.
Uzes is situated on the edge of Provence and places such as Isle sur Sorgue, Aix-en-Provence, Cassis, Gordes, Arles and The Carmargue are easily accessible.
