Accommodation Our self catering holiday cottages offer accommodation of the very highest standards. Each cottage has the same basic layout on the ground floor measuring approx. 10m x 6m. Lounge with three piece suite, coffee table and table lamps. Fully fitted kitchen units with gas cooker, electric toaster, stainless steel sink and fridge/freezer. Large dining area with farmhouse furniture and ceiling fan. Private stone walled patio with parasol, table and chairs. TV, telephone, library, games and information folder. Internet room and ASDL. You will find something special in every cottage, including all the creature comforts you need for a comfortable stay. Sleeps 5 + cot. Saturday changeover. Outside Each gite has its own private terrace. There is a large communal grass area, Sun beds, umbrellas and barbecue are provided. Shared salt water pool and paddling pool fenced and gated plus floodlit at night, There is a laundry room and allocated shaded car parking. |

Local area The village of Les Leves, 3km, has a boulangerie, a wine co-operative and garage / newsagent / tabac. There are many local restaurants within a short distance of Les Granges which offer a 5 course lunch for around 12 euros. To the south, a 12 minute drive, is the pretty little town of Duras perched high on an escarpment above the valley of the River Dropt. During the summer months the chateau here is used for concerts and other spectacles including a wine fair in late July. There are many leisure activities to be found in the vicinity. Tennis at Ste. Foy, horse-riding at Les Leves. A children’s aqua park, crazy golf, bowling alley and quad bikes are all within 20 minutes drive. The large 18-hole golf club of Les Vigiers with a superb restaurant and tea room is a 15 minute drive away. There is a nice beach at Lac de Gurson just a little further away and the River Dordogne is lovely for canoeing, fishing and scenic boat rides from Ste. Foy and Bergerac. Nearby places to visit include St. Emilion with its famous 12th century monolithic church. Here you can tour the famous vineyards on a motorised train and take in the delights of the surrounding countryside. Climb the bell tower, visit the catacombs, meander through the cobbled streets visiting the many boutiques and wine tasting shops, stopping off at one of the bustling cafes for welcoming refreshments. Also worth a visit is Bergerac. Here you will find wine and tobacco museums and the famous statue of Cyrano de Bergerac in the old town with its cobbled streets running down to the River Dordogne. Take a trip down the river on a converted tobacco barge taking in the sights and watching the kingfishers and herons. The pretty town of Domme, with its beautiful sandstone buildings and cobbled streets, is perched above the Dordogne River. Here you can explore the caves with wonderful displays of stalactites and stalagmites. Being situated close to some of the most famous wine growing areas in the world. You can sample the delights of the Grandes Crus of St. Emilion, Pomerol, Medoc, Graves, Sauternes, Barsac, Loupiac, Monbazillac as well as the more affordable and every day wines of this region Bordeaux, Bergerac, Entre Deux Mers and Duras. Bordeaux airport is 20 minutes away at Merignac and about an hours drive and beyond Bordeaux are the beaches of the Atlantic Coast, two hours drive approximately (Archachon, Cap Ferrat, Dune de Pile). Within an hour or so from Les Granges there are some famous bastide towns and chateaux of the Dordogne and Vezere valleys. These include Beynac, Castelnaud, Domme, Montpazier, Sarlat, Les Eyzies, Chateaux Milandes and Byron. |
