Facilities The pool (open from 1st May - 30th September) is a generous 12m x 6m with a sloping depth of 1m to 2m. The water is kept sparkling clean by the use of a 'salt-system' which is kinder to skin and eyes than the traditional chlorine system as well as being more environmentally friendly. In the interests of safety our swimming pool is fenced and has approved alarms in line with current French legislation. There are ample sun loungers, comfy deckchairs and umbrellas for relaxing around the pool. Borrow a book from our pool bar library or swap one that you have already read. For cooler weather (or a quiet evening) borrow a board game or some playing cards. As well as housing books and games, our pool bar provides an environment where guests can socialise with a drink and make new friends after a day out and about in our beautiful part of the world. Two large barbecues are situated beside the bar and are ideal for guests who wish to share a meal with friends. These are in addition to the barbecues found on the terrace of each individual gite. For the energetic we have a range of sports equipment: badminton net and racquets, boules, croquet set, a full size outdoor table tennis table + bats and a small number of bikes which are free to borrow for short periods according to availability (for longer term use, bicycle can be hired locally and delivered to your cottage). For the amusement of small children we have swings and slide as well as books for that bedtime story. A washing machine is available for the use of guests (free) along with irons and ironing boards. Each cottage has a clothes horse, but you are welcome to make use of the clothes lines and pegs at the rear of the property. |

Local area We are ideally situated in a valley between the Dordogne and Vezere rivers, just a short stroll from the centre of the medieval village of Meyrals which boasts a boulangerie, post office, 2 restaurants, a bar, a brocante, pottery, several artists workshops/galleries and a small weekly market. Less the six kilometres away is Les Eyzies-de-Tayac and the Vezere river valley (now a UNESCO world heritage site due to the concentration of prehistoric caves including the world famous Font de Gaume). The National Museum of Prehistory can also be found in Les Eyzies. The caves of Lascaux near Montignac (30km) are among the most famous pre-historic sites of early man. The cro-magnon people lived and hunted here, as long as thirty thousand years ago. Along the Dordogne river, the bastide towns (such as Domme) with their marvellous medieval buildings and the chateaux impossibly perched on the top of craggy cliffs will keep the most ardent sightseer happy. The more sporty guests will appreciate the many activities available including canoeing, rock-climbing, walking, cycling, ballooning and cave exploration to name but a few. Visit the numerous local markets including nearby St. Cyprien or Sarlat (one of the biggest in South West France) to sample the gastronomic delights of Perigord Noir, home to the renowned foie gras, duck confit, truffles, walnuts and wines of the region. Sarlat - 15 minutes - teems with life on Saturday mornings when one of the biggest markets in the region is held. |
